Crestron HD-MD4X2-4K-E — 4×2 4K HDMI Switcher

A surface-mountable 4×2 matrix switcher taking four HDMI inputs to two HDMI outputs at up to 4K/60. Handles 1080p, 2K, Ultra HD and 4K with HDCP, 3D, Deep Color and high-bitrate 7.1 audio, and adds proper EDID management plus native Crestron control over Ethernet. Backed by a 12-month warranty from Reboot IT.

Power adapter not included. This unit is supplied without its external power supply. You will need to source a compatible Crestron supply before it will operate.

Key Benefits

  • Four sources, two displays — a true 4×2 matrix, so either output can show either source independently rather than mirroring one feed.
  • Real EDID management — comprehensive control over the EDID passed between display and source, which is what fixes the “works on one laptop, black screen on another” problem.
  • Per-input HDCP control — HDCP can be enabled or disabled on each input individually, invaluable when one source insists on encryption and the rest of the chain does not.
  • QuickSwitch HD — Crestron's fast-switching technology cuts the handshake delay that makes ordinary HDMI switching feel broken.
  • Three ways to drive it — front-panel controls with an OLED display, a web browser, or a Crestron control system over Ethernet.
  • Full 4K/60 path — carries 4K/60 end to end with 3D, Deep Color and 7.1 high-bitrate audio intact.

Performance in Use

This is the switcher for a room with more sources than a display has inputs — a lectern laptop, a resident PC, a video conferencing codec and a visitor connection, feeding a main screen and a confidence monitor. The 4×2 matrix means the confidence monitor is not locked to whatever the main screen is showing, which is the point of a matrix rather than a plain switch.

The features that matter in practice are the unglamorous ones. EDID management is the difference between a room that works with every laptop and a room with a standing complaint. Per-input HDCP control resolves the encryption mismatches that produce a black screen with no useful error. And QuickSwitch HD keeps source changes quick enough that people stop noticing the switcher exists, which is the goal.

Worth setting expectations: Crestron has discontinued this model, so it is an installed-base and replacement part rather than a current product. That makes it a sensible buy to extend or repair an existing system, and a less sensible one as the foundation of a brand new install where a current model will have a longer support life.

Is It Right For You?

✓ Best For ✗ Not For
Boardrooms with more sources than display inputs

Main screen plus an independent confidence monitor

Extending or repairing an existing Crestron install

Rooms plagued by EDID or HDCP handshake problems

4K/60 sources and displays

Integrators wanting Ethernet or browser control
Anyone needing it working out of the box — no power supply

Brand new installs wanting long-term vendor support — discontinued

More than two displays — use a larger matrix

Sources other than HDMI — there are no analogue inputs

Long cable runs — pair it with an extender

Simple one-in one-out switching — overkill

Condition Grades

Grade A — Excellent Excellent to very good cosmetic condition. May carry light scratches or other minor blemishes from normal service. Fully tested and functionally as-new.
Grade B — Good Good cosmetic condition with more visible wear, scuffing or marking to the casing. Function and performance are unaffected and testing is identical to Grade A.

Cosmetic grading describes the casing only. Every unit, whatever its grade, is tested to the same standard and carries the same warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a power supply included?

No. This unit ships without its external power supply, which is reflected in the price. You will need to source a compatible Crestron supply before it will operate.

Can the two outputs show different sources?

Yes. It is a true 4×2 matrix, so each output can be assigned any input independently — a main display and a confidence monitor need not show the same thing.

Does it handle 4K?

Yes, up to 4K/60, along with 1080p, 2K and Ultra HD, with 3D, Deep Color and high-bitrate 7.1 audio supported.

Do I need a Crestron control system?

No. It can be operated from the front panel using the OLED display, or from a web browser. Native Crestron control over Ethernet is available if you have a control system, but it is not required.

What is EDID management for?

It controls the display-capability information passed between source and screen. Getting it right is what stops the common failure where a room works with one laptop and shows a black screen with another.

Is this model still current?

No. Crestron has discontinued the HD-MD4X2-4K-E, which makes it well suited to extending or repairing an existing installation rather than founding a new one.

What is shipping and delivery like?

Shipping costs apply based on size and destination — rates are calculated at checkout. Orders placed before the daily cut-off are typically dispatched the same business day from our Melbourne warehouse.
