Cradlepoint W1850-5GB 5G Wideband Adapter

A certified refurbished W1850-5GB brings enterprise 5G NR and LTE Cat 20 connectivity to a branch or fixed site. It holds a 5G and a 4G session simultaneously, passes up to 2 Gbps through two 2.5 GbE ports, and takes 802.3at PoE on LAN2 so one Cat cable does power and data. This unit has been tested. Backed by a 12-month warranty from Reboot IT.

Three antennas, not four. The W1850 takes four external antennas and this unit ships with three. It will operate, but you should expect reduced MIMO performance until a fourth is fitted. Cradlepoint 5G/4G paddle antennas are widely available separately.
No NetCloud subscription is included. Cradlepoint devices are sold as part of an Ericsson NetCloud service package, and cloud management, remote configuration and firmware updates depend on an active licence. This unit is supplied as hardware only. Budget for a NetCloud licence before you buy if you intend to manage it through the cloud dashboard.

Key Benefits

  • Simultaneous 5G and LTE — dual connectivity keeps a 5G and a 4G session live at once, so a cell handover or a congested 5G carrier does not take the site offline.
  • Put the radio where the signal is — 5G mid-band travels poorly through building fabric. Because the adapter separates from the router, it can sit by a window or high on a wall while the router stays in the comms cupboard.
  • One cable install — LAN2 accepts 802.3at PoE, so a single Cat run carries power and data and no mains outlet is needed at the mounting point.
  • 2.5 Gigabit throughput — two 2.5 GbE ports, switchable between LAN and WAN, with up to 2 Gbps passthrough, so the Ethernet side is not the bottleneck on a fast 5G service.
  • Private cellular ready — supports CBRS and private cellular networks alongside public carrier service.
  • Console port for direct access — an RJ45 console port plus a USB port are on board for local configuration and recovery.

Performance in Use

The W1850 exists because of a physics problem. 5G mid-band carries far more capacity than LTE but propagates worse, so the best signal is usually at a window or an external wall — exactly where you do not want to put a router. Splitting the radio out lets the adapter go where the signal is and the router stay where the rack is, joined by ordinary structured cabling.

In a branch that makes it a credible primary or failover WAN. Dual connectivity means the device is not betting everything on one radio technology: if 5G coverage drops or a carrier congests, the LTE Cat 20 session is already established rather than being negotiated from cold. Paired with a router that can do WAN failover, the site stays up through events that would otherwise be visible to users.

Two limits to be plain about. This is an adapter, not a router — it has no built-in Wi-Fi and is designed to feed a router or firewall rather than replace one. And cloud management requires a NetCloud subscription that is not included here; without one you are limited to local configuration.

Is It Right For You?

✓ Best For ✗ Not For
Branch sites needing 5G primary or failover WAN

Placing the radio at a window while the router stays in the rack

PoE installs where no mains outlet exists at the mount point

Organisations that already hold NetCloud licences

CBRS and private cellular deployments

Anyone with a spare Cradlepoint 5G/4G paddle antenna
Buyers expecting a NetCloud licence — none is included

Buyers needing all four antennas out of the box

Anyone wanting built-in Wi-Fi — this adapter has none

A drop-in router replacement — it feeds a router, not replaces one

mmWave 5G — this is low/mid-band

Outdoor or unconditioned sites — indoor rated 0 to 50 °C

Condition Grades

Grade A — Excellent Excellent to very good cosmetic condition. May carry light scratches or other minor blemishes from normal service.
Grade B — Good Good cosmetic condition with more visible wear, scuffing or marking to the casing. Function and performance are unaffected.

Cosmetic grading describes the casing only. Every unit, whatever its grade, carries the same warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many antennas does it come with?

Three. The W1850 is designed for four external antennas and one is missing from this unit, which is reflected in the price. It will operate on three, with reduced MIMO performance. Compatible Cradlepoint 5G/4G paddle antennas can be bought separately.

Is a NetCloud subscription included?

No. Cradlepoint hardware is normally sold bundled with an Ericsson NetCloud service plan, and cloud management, remote configuration and firmware updates all depend on an active licence. This is a hardware-only sale. If you need the cloud dashboard, price a NetCloud licence in before purchasing.

Is this a router?

Not in the usual sense. It is a 5G wideband adapter that provides the cellular WAN connection and hands it to a router or firewall over Ethernet. It has no built-in Wi-Fi. Cradlepoint designed it to be sited separately from the router so the radio can be placed where the signal is strongest.

How is it powered?

By 802.3at PoE on the LAN2 port, or by a DC adapter. Neither a PoE injector nor an adapter is included with this unit, so you will need a PoE+ switch port, an injector, or a compatible power supply.

Does it need a SIM?

Yes, a 4FF nano SIM from your carrier, and it is not included. The device also supports CBRS and private cellular networks.

Has it been tested?

Yes. This unit was tested during intake. As with all our stock it is sold with a 12-month warranty.

What is shipping and delivery like?

Shipping costs apply based on size and destination — rates are calculated at checkout. Orders placed before the daily cut-off are typically dispatched the same business day from our Melbourne warehouse.
